About FVMS

The History of Fox Valley Montessori
School
In September 1969, FVMS was established as a half-day preschool by
a group of dedicated parents committed to the philosopy of Dr.
Maria Montessori. Small classes were held in various church
activity rooms until February 1977, when the school opened its
doors at 850 N. Commonwealth Ave.
In 1978 an introductory Toddler program for two year old children began, and in 1979 all-day programs were offered. In 1981, the school added an elementary program for children 6 to 9 years old. In September 1991, the school added 6,800 square feet of classroom space and remodeled the entire facility. This addition enabled FVMS to create an additional preschool classroom and separated elementary students into two groups. FVMS added a 5,500 square foot multi-purpose gymnasium in 1997 which completes the physical structure for the school.
Fox Valley Montessori School students represent many cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds and live within a 25 mile radius of the school. The common element among parents is their interest in providing their children with quality education based on the principles of Montessori's theories.
Fox Valley Montessori School is affiliated with the American Montessori Society.
